The charge to this committee is to develop and define the scope of services, including sites, to be included in a UCSF Occupational Health Program; ensure that resources, including space, staffing, and related operational support, are available to provide a safe and healthy work environment at UCSF for staff employees, faculty, residents, postdoctoral scholars, volunteers, agency-based staff, and students at risk for exposures; identify high volume, high risk health services defined by OSHA and other regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and compliance to these regulations; develop appropriate surveillance mechanisms for identification of, and responding to, new and emerging communicable or occupational diseases; ensure shared planning and coordination with existing departments and services at UCSF and at the affiliates currently involved in aspects of Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SFGH and VA Employee Health, Student Health Services, Workers Compensation Program, Infection Control, etc.); identify databases relevant to both individuals and services and evaluate the feasibility of data integration. If integration is not feasible, propose a transition plan to a common database with shared elements; recommend metrics for quality control and client satisfaction; and provide an annual report to my office detailing services rendered, identified gaps in service, and regulatory compliance.
